Artist's Statement: "Photo-a-Day"
On January 1st, 2010, I began an ambitious project: taking a photograph a day for a year. I realized not every photo would be a masterpiece, and so conceived of the project more like the daily routine of exercising a muscle. I chose to limit myself to a smartphone camera--in this case an iPhone 3G--as the camera that would most facilitate my ability to take a picture of whatever subject I came across on any particular day. Of course, smartphones are not the highest quality imaging devices, but that just became a constant limiting factor of the project.
I repeated the project in 2012, this time with an iPhone 4 and it's clearly much more capable built-in camera. Although primarily photo-based, for my second attempt at a "photo" a day I tried to open things up a bit media-wise to include videos and sound clips as well as still photos. ↑
